Writing Rivers

July 21, 2018 // 9 am to 12 pm

Portland, ME

The Fore River is a six-mile-long estuary, dividing Portland from South Portland. Estuaries are tidal and mark the transition from river to sea. We'll begin the morning with 30 minutes of silence, sitting on the banks of the Fore River and simply listening to the moving water.

Where has this water come from and where is it going? What can we learn from the sounds of a river? We'll spend the rest of our morning together writing about the river in a series of exercises which prompt us to imagine the meandering courses and cycles of the Fore River waterway.
